What is Virtual Web Hosting?

We specialize in Virtual Web Hosting which means that you can have your own domain name web site on our state-of-the-art Cobalt Micro RaQ web servers to establish a presence on the internet. We will register your own domain name which will become your unique address on the World Wide Web. With your own domain name, you will have a unique URL. Since email can be sent and received via your domain (eg. YOU@YOURNAME.COM ), you can retain the same email address, even if you change internet providers.

Will I be able to access my domain name with or without the WWW?

Yes, you will be able to access your domain name either way. For example, you can access the domain name "mydomain.com" by entering "http://www.mydomain.com" or "http://mydomain.com".

Do you offer dial-up internet access?

No, you will need local Internet access in order to maintain your web site and retrieve email addressed to your site. By focusing only on Web Hosting, we can serve you better because we do not have hundreds of modems to maintain, nor do we waste bandwidth by providing access. Our accounts are hosted using Cobalt Micro RaQ servers. We are connected to the web using PSINet's new OC-48 backbone. An OC-48 is about 70 to 140 times faster than your hard drive or roughly 2.4 billion bits per second. This is over 50 times faster than the standard T-3 lines in use by most providers. The Cobalt RaQ systems can each handle upwards of 7 million hits per day. This combination provides a level of service that is unparallelled at any price!

Do you host adult sites?

No, we don't host any adult-related sites.

Do you offer web page design services?

Yes, we do offer web site design and development, as well as custom scripting services. Contact us to discuss your requirements and our special discounted rates for our hosting customers. For more information, contact siteation@finanswers.com.

How do I upgrade from one website package to another?

You can upgrade your site by sending your request to siteation@finanswers.com or calling us at either (303) 388-8133 or (303) 388-8133. Any unused fees will be applied to a larger package when you upgrade.

Can I check domain name availability?

Yes. You can check domain availability through our direct link to InterNIC's whois database.

Does SiteAtion™ handle domain registration?

Yes. We will contact the InterNIC once we receive your completed order to request a new domain name registration. If you are transferring the domain name we will send you a completed template that you can forward to the InterNIC to effect the transfer. (PLEASE DO NOT submit a registration or modification template to the InterNIC independently. This will only delay your request!)

Can I transfer existing domain name to SiteAtion™ ?

Yes. When you place your order be sure to specify that you are requesting a transfer and NOT a new domain. You should keep the service at the present site while waiting for InterNIC to complete the transfer. We will provide you with a temporary IP address so you can mirror the site on our server. All email and web pages will still be accessed from the current site. When InterNIC informs us of the completion of the transfer there is a 72 hour "propagation" period during which both sites will be accessible. At the end of the 72 hours you should contact the previous host and instruct them to delete the old domain from their records and update their DNS record. (Note: If you use this same provider for your internet access you will not be able to access your domain site with SiteAtion until they update their DNS.)

How long does it take before my domain name is active?

Once InterNIC indicates that your domain name has been registered (or transferred, if applicable), it usually takes about 72-hours before it is active. All internet providers must update their records (DNS tables) to reflect new site locations. This is called "propagation".

What is the InterNIC fee for domain registration ?

InterNIC charges $70 to register a new domain name. This fee covers the first two years. They currently bill at a rate of $35 per year. InterNIC will send you an invoice via email within 3 to 6 weeks after the domain is registered.

How do I transfer files to my web site ?

Files must be transferred to the web server via File Transport Protocol (FTP). If you need FTP software, we use and recommend CuteFTP. You can download a program for either the PC or Mac from jumbo.com or shareware.com. Internet providers such as AOL, Compuserve, and Prodigy may have a built-in FTP interface, as do most web authoring programs.

Will I have unlimited access to update my pages?

You have unlimited access via FTP 24-hours a day. You can create and maintain your web pages on your own computer and upload files to your web site at your leisure. You can also logon via Telnet and your Web Browser to manage and update your site.

Can multiple domains point to the same HTML files ?

Yes, we offer a "domain name only" service whereby additional domain names can point to an existing IP address. The charge is just $100 per year for this service.

Can I resell space within my own domain account?

Yes. You can resell space within your account at no extra cost,
however, you are responsible for all content on your site.

Do you accept international orders ?

Yes. We are delighted to offer our virtual server capabilities to customers around the world. If you wish, we can host non-US domain name extensions. We will provide the necessary technical information but you will need to register the name yourself if it is outside of the U.S. InterNIC. Please let us know in advance if you want to use a non-US domain name.

Do you offer technical support to customers ?

Yes. We encourage our customers to send email to siteation@finanswers.com with questions or concerns about their web site. If we don't know the answer to your questions, we will find out and get back to you, usually within twenty-four hours.

How long does it take to set up a new account ?

As long as all your application is complete, we normally have your account activated within 3-4 business days. Once an account is set up, an activation notice will be sent you via email including an IP address and instructions for using all the custom features. You can begin uploading files to your new web site immediately after receiving your IP address (temporary URL).
