What We Mean By 'Secure Order Form'

There are two areas of online ordering where security becomes an issue. The first is when a purchaser is connected to a distant web site or server and submits payment information. Although so unlikely that no such cases have been published, a dishonest server company employee with sufficiently high clearance and monitor activity and access the information on the server since routine server activity is not encrypted.

Security against this illegal activity can be achieved by the use of a Secure Server which encrypts information submitted prior to transmittal. This is the most secure system currently available and is supported by most recent versions of major browsers. This is also an expensive ($250 and up) alternative. If your browser doesn't support secure forms, the 2 Step Order Process TurboDraft has built into its online ordering system provides an acceptable level of security for most users.

The second area where security can be an issue is during the actual transmission of the order to the merchant's site. This is the principle reason why our online ordering system involves two separate electronic messages, each containing only a part of the information required to process the order. The simple action of splitting the order information into two messages makes it almost impossible for the messages to be intercepted. Even messages sent one after the other consecutively take different paths to their destination.
